Grand Master Mantak Chia

Grand Master Mantak Chia was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1944 Recognized very early as having great potential for spiritual development, he was initiated into meditation practices by Buddhist monks at the age of 6. While studying in Hong Kong, he learned Tai Chi Chuan, Aikido and Kundalini Yoga from a variety of teachers. His pursuit of Taoist teachings lead him to meet the White Cloud Hermit, a Taoist Master originally from Central China, living at that time in the mountains not far from Hong Kong. Master Yi Eng was to become Master Mantak Chia's principle teacher.

Over a period of five years, Master Yi transmitted to Grand Master Mantak Chia the most sacred and closely held Taoist practices, formulas and methods of internal alchemy, culminating in the Reunion of Heaven and Man. Realizing that as transmitted to him, these Immortal practices could not easily be absorbed by western students, Grand Master Mantak Chia undertook to integrate them with his studies in western physical anatomy. Through this process he created a unique view of the internal aspects of these practices.

With the Universal Healing Tao system, he has created for the first time, a way for any individual to quickly get to the essence of subtle practices whose real purpose has been shrouded in secrecy for millenia. The author of dozens of books, booklets, videos and CDs describing the theory and methods of these practices, Grand Master Mantak Chia has taught hundreds of thousands of eager students the principles of Taoist internal practice over the past 40 years. He has certified hundreds of Instructors and Practitioners to help in the transmission of these teachings.

We, Walter and Jutta, are senior instructors of the Universal Tao System or Tao Yoga system of Taoist Master Mantak Chia.

Our spiritual journey began in 1987 after we met Master Chia for the first time. Practicing already from his books we were curious on how he would teach this internal energy work to others. Further courses with him followed and in 1990 we attended the 4 weeks of Instructor Training in upstate New York.
After this intensive training we followed him in Winter 1991 and 1992 to Pataya (Thailand) where we participated in the immortal practices of Kan & Li. During this period we lived part of the year in Spain and the rest of the year in Switzerland were we taught part time the basic practices of the Universal Tao system.

In 1993 Master Chia bought land in the north of Thailand to build a center and moved from USA back to Thailand were he originally came from.
We helped him during our vacations together with other students in this big project and in 1997 had the opportunity to live, teach and work at Tao Garden. Since 2003 we are leading instructors, assisting Master Chia in his Summer and Winter Retreats in the instructor evaluation weeks.

We both enjoy sharing Master Chia’s vision of the Taoist practices to like-minded people around the world.
